Part Time Employment Opportunity - Department of Public Works – Equipment Operator

The Town of Grand Chute Department of Public Works is seeking applications for a part-time equipment operator. Typical tasks of an equipment operator include but are not limited to snowplowing, grass mowing, forestry work as well as any labor required to maintain the Town streets, right-of-ways, utilities, parks or other Town properties and building facilities. Please see attached position description for more information.

Hours and days of work are flexible according to the needs of the department and the employee’s schedule. Most work is daytime hours except for special tasks such as snow plowing. Approximately 960 hours annually will be budgeted for each position.

Minimum qualifications: Prior responsible work experience in the area of street maintenance and/or construction, facilities and grounds maintenance, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid commercial driver’s license is required.

Employment Opportunity - Town of Lawrence, Wisconsin - Utility Operator

The Town of Lawrence, Brown County, Wisconsin, (Pop. 5,158), a growing urban/rural community located in the Green Bay metropolitan region, is seeking applications for the full-time position of Utility Operator. This position will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection systems, as well as other duties within Public Works and Park operations for the Town. General work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This is an hourly non-exempt position with a rotating “on-call” schedule outside of regular business hours.

Preference will be given to applicants with WI DNR Water Certifications, or the ability to obtain within one year. Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License is required with minimum class B CDL. Wages DOQ and the Town of Lawrence offers an attractive benefit package.

TOWN OF GRAND CHUTE, WISCONSIN - DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

Director of Public Works, Grand Chute, WI (pop. 22,000). The Town of Grand Chute is a full-service municipality located in Wisconsin’s fast-growing Fox River Valley area. The Town is adjacent to the City of Appleton, and approximately halfway between Oshkosh and Green Bay along the I-41 corridor. Grand Chute is the most populated Town in the state, and is part of the Fox Cities CSA, with a population of close to 400,000.

Grand Chute seeks a high-energy, experienced, proactive public works executive to direct a broad range of services including engineering, streets, water, sewer and storm water utilities, fleet management, and parks.  The ideal candidate is an innovative thinker and ready to be an integral member of the senior management team. 

The position is responsible for leading a department comprised of 22 full-time and part-time employees, as well as managing $18 million in operating and utility budgets, plus more than $ 5 million in capital improvement programming.

Grand Chute encompasses 25 square miles, and the Town maintains 305 lane- miles of roads. The Town provides water, wastewater and storm water services to residents including potable water distribution, wastewater collection, storm water collection and treatment, and water quality protection. The Town also manages a solid waste collection contract and a Town cemetery. In addition, the Town maintains 134 acres of park land and 13 miles of recreational trails. The Director reports to the Town Administrator who is responsible to a five-member Town Board.

The successful candidate will:

·         Possess a passion for public service;

·         Be adept at combining a hands-on management style with confident professionalism and an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders;

·         Have a record of creative problem solving, and strong public relations skills;

·         Be strategic thinking and have top-notch communication skills.

Candidates should also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field; a Master’s degree in engineering, public administration or related field is a plus.
  • Six to nine years of progressively responsible public sector public works management, or general public administrative or managerial experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in a larger community at the assistant department head level will be considered. The starting salary range is $94,000 - $101,500 +/- DOQ.

GIS Intern

The Town of Grand Chute is seeking applicants for a summer GIS Intern for the Public Works Department. This is a seasonal (summer) position with an emphasis on public works utility data, tree inventory, database maintenance, map production, and general GPS data collection.

Minimum qualifications: Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student working toward a degree in GIS, Planning, Natural Resources Technician, Surveying or Engineering. All work is field and office oriented and performed under a variety of conditions. A valid driver’s license is required. Hours of operation are typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, May through September.

Parks Laborer I

The Town of Grand Chute is seeking applicants for a Full Time Laborer for the Park Department. The successful applicant will perform general labor tasks in the maintenance of town parks. Normal duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Mowing grass and weeds, maintenance of park facilities, winter maintenance of park facilities, opening and cleaning of town parks, maintenance of park equipment and furniture, and sports field and court marking.

Position Summary:  Responsible for administration of the Planning & Zoning, Board of Adjustment and Solid Waste Departments and associated zoning ordinances (Floodplain, Shoreland and Comprehensive), the Private Sewage System Ordinance Land Division Ordinance, Non-Metallic Mining Reclamation Ordinance, Uniform Dwelling Code Ordinance, Ordinance Regulating Storage and Disposal of Automobiles, Tires Junk and Other Miscellaneous Waste, Minimum Housing Code Ordinance, Road Naming and Addressing Ordinance, Livestock Ordinance, Small Demolition Waste Landfill Ordinance, Solid Waste Management, Recycling and related work such as nuisance complaints and other duties that may from time to time be assigned.  The duties include supervising the department staff as well as technical and administrative work.  Included in this work are public relations and education, planning, cooperation with other agencies, investigations, ordinance enforcement and development. 

Education:

·         A Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Management, Environmental Health (or closely related field) from a college or university preferred; or a combination of training and applicable experience required.

·         Minimum of 5 or more years of experience in land use planning, zoning, sanitation, solid waste management, recycling, surveying and code enforcement.

·         Must be a certified soil tester, licensed plumbing inspector, or the ability to obtain required licensing within six (6) months from date of hire.

Towns in Wisconsin are governed according to Chapter 60 of the Wisconsin Statutes. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning and economic development is required. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is preferred. Equivalent combinations of training and experience will be considered. The applicant must also demonstrate a history of effective communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of integrity; a strong work ethic (commitment to public service); team building abilities in addressing community issues/problems; open and positive communication skills and strong leadership skills.
